Day 6 part 2

We then headed back across the Charles Bridge, explored the area around the Jewish Quarter, and around Wenceslas Square, where our hotel is.

Day 6 Prague

Another cold and clear day, with a maximum of -4.  We are coping well with the cold but its a hassle wearing so many clothes.

We started out about 9 and headed to the Old Town Square, where it was much less crowded at that early hour.  We went to the top of the tower of the Old Town Hall where the astronomical clock is.  We got great views over that part of the city.   We missed the lift so had a strenuous climb!

We headed off across the river and climbed to the Prague Metronome and walked on through some quiet gardens to the Palace.

Day 5 Prague

It was a very cold day today with a maximum of -5.  However it was sunny and clear and we enjoyed being out in it.

We did a bus tour this morning to give us an overview of central Prague which included the 4 old towns, the Castle, and ended up at the Old Town square, where there were more Christmas markets.  We browsed the markets for lunch.

This afternoon we did a walking tour that took in the Old Town and the Jewish quarter.  Vit, our guide, was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot on the history and architecture of the areas we wandered through.  Alan and I were the only people on the tour so had personalised service.  I was encouraged by the fact that Vit kept commenting on how cold it was.

We're very glad we came to Prague.

Day 4 Travelling

Today we travelled to Prague via train, bus, and air.  All the connections worked and the only frustration was the hour it took to get our bags after the flight landed. The bags appeared one at a time and then nothing.  Eventually the system creaked back into action and we were on our way.

Our hotel is on Wenceslas Square where there are Christmas Markets.  We grazed the markets for dinner and enjoyed the Christmas lights.

Day 3 Hay on Wye

Following on from yesterday's post, we had a group of students come to the door last night and sing carols for us, which was a lovely treat.

Today was cold, clear and sunny  - a perfect winter day.  Who says they don't have nice winter weather in this part of the world.  Mind you there was snow in some parts of the country.

We walked to Hay on Wye along the public footpath through muddy fields this morning and spent an enjoyable morning exploring the town and browsing the shops.

We drove to Talgarth late morning.  We had lunch at a bakery in a restored flour mill and then toured the mill which was actually grinding grain today.  It was very interesting to have the process explained and to see it working.

We spent an hour taking the dog for a walk to the Begwyns where there were great 360 deg views around the Wye Valley.  It was so clear.

Day 2 Hay on Wye

Went shopping in Hereford this morning - cold but fine and sunny even.

This afternoon we climbed Hay Bluff with John and Gunner (the dog).  It was quite cold and windy - 1 degree when we got back to the car, and we had snow flurries.  The exercise and fresh air were very welcome.

Day 1 Hay on Wye

Arrived safely at Heathrow after good but long flights.  It was lovely to meet up with Penny and make our way westward to West Cwm Cusop.
